May, 18, 2012: Hewlett-Packard Co. is mulling over bringing down its number of employees by cutting 8 to 10% of workforce. According to the sources, minimum of 25,000 employees may lose their jobs because the new CEO Meg Whitman is striving hard to bring progress to the Silicon Valley institute – Hewlett-Packard.
Sources have revealed that the job cuts including the retirements are under discussion and no final verdict has been made by the company. However, the sources familiar with the matter did not disclose the time frame or other details.
The company may announce the layoffs in the next week at the time of unveiling of quarterly results, according to sources seeking anonymity as the plan has not been made public by the company. Currently, HP employs over 300,000 people across the world.
Some of the analysts have been expecting the job cuts due to Mr. Whitman’s plan to merge the personal computer and printer divisions of the company.
The shares of leading PC maker HP were at $22.08, which is 5% up, in the afternoon trade.
