The Action starts here. An announcement at the Blackberry Live by the CEO Thorsten Heins has gone viral because he announced that their coveted BBM will now soon also be available on the Android and Apple’s iOS. They plan to launch the messaging app globally this summer. This is considered to ge a huge move from the Blackberry as it bring out the Blackberry 10’s strongest features available literally to hundreds of millions of the potential users.

The news which has become so viral on all the tech blogs, making a hot discussion topic amongst the mobile junkies, comes directly from the mouth of Blackberry CEO Heins which has explained this announcement as state of their confidence that the Blackberry 10platform if strong and they receive such good response that they consider it as a time for BBM to become rather independent mobile messaging platform. He has further announced that the BBM app will be available free on the Android as well as iOS just like the other messaging apps. it will be a standalone application. It will run on the iOS 6 and on Ice cream Sandwich which will be required.

Initially its messaging and the group features will be made available. But Hein CEO of BlackBerry has promise rest of the BBM will also eventually make a way into the Android and the iOS versions which will include the screen sharing, the BBM voice and the newly announced the BBM channels.

Heins says that they have made the BBM platform more powerful which he is proudly stating. This is a very uncharacteristic move from the Blackberry and it is hard to argue against the statement.

This is seen as Blackberry finally waking up and realizing that they are no longer big dog in Smartphone mobile war. For them to survive company needs to forge new relationships and even learn to adapt to the two reigning platforms.

The move of Blackberry to put the BBM on the Android and on iOS is rather a big step forward and it seems Blackberry may have chance.

The Photoshop developing company Adobe is moving out entirely into cloud base subscription as it is trying out its new business model. The software boxes like Photoshop for the editing of pictures and the in design for the layout will now soon become thing of past. The customers will now have to rent all these programmes from the cloud data. The company further is also planning to sell own hardware.

This means the Creative Suite 6 which is their current version will be the last sold in the stores. Adobe is planning to move out entirely to the subscription model. The subscription version is available for more than a year which is available under name Creative Cloud has actually proved to be successful and popular with the customers.

The cloud computing seems to be becoming more stable business models as more companies are finding it so.

The sales seem to spread out more evenly with the subscription model.

Until now the companies could see uptick in the business when new version of the software gets released only to see that it cool off as it gets older. But in case of subscription model the sales will get spread more evenly. The Adobe is offering the software for designing the website Dreamweaver and the software for working on videos Premier.

There can be risks to such radical change in the business model.

Adobe’s subscription income makes only about the Fifth of the Adobe of about one billion dollars quarter. But at same time it is important to notice that users of the cloud services have increases by 153,000 to 479,000 in last quarter. Adobe has been warned that it can be high cost in transition which can reduce their profits. But Adobe is optimistic that it will have around 4 million subscriptions of customers by the 2015.

The part of the whole transition is to make it own hardware. And this can include hardware such as a networked pen which is to enter data on touchscreens under name Project Mighty and anther is digital ruler with iconic name as Napoleon Ruler.

The company is shuttering graphics program Fireworks. The news is such that the PDF software Acrobat will be available to sell separately outside cloud.

Do you think you have what it takes to begin a rewarding career in the networking field? If your answer is yes, then you should consider pursuing the Cisco CCENT certification. Successful completion of this certification is a starting point that will pave the way for your future in networking by showing that you have the skills necessary to manage small enterprise branch networks. Gaining this credential validates that you have the entry-level skills needed for installing, operating, and solving network related challenges that arise. Your CCENT certification will be valid for a period of three years. Candidates who earn their CCENT credential often work towards the CCNA, which is the next level of certification.

Although there are no prerequisite classes on the track to becoming CCENT certified, candidates must pass the 640-822 Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices part 1 (ICND1) exam. This 75-minute exam will focus on the skills needed for managing small scale branch office networks. Candidates are encouraged, but not required, to take the ICND1 training course prior to the exam. IT exam tutorials, from companies such as Testslive, are also highly recommended as the one of the most effective training methods. The study tools available from Testslive are designed to narrow the focus of your studying so that you are optimally prepared to pass the required exam. If you want additional information on working toward the Cisco certification, please their learning network website.

May 26, 2012: Reliance Communications (RCom) has announced of bringing down 3G rates by 61%. This move by RCom after similar cut in 3G rates from Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular has intensified the 3G tariff war.

Now, the 3G users of RCom will be only charged with Rs. 250 for high speed internet usage up to 1 GB and thereafter the users will be charged with 20 paisa per MB data usage. Earlier, Anil Ambani Group firm used to charge Rs. 650 for the usage of 1 GB data and thereafter 50 paisa for each MB data usage. Moreover, the 3G subscribers of the RCom will now have to Rs. 450 for the usage 2 GB data download instead of previous rate of Rs. 710.

“We would like our customers to enjoy Reliance 3G network with the best broadband speeds for Internet access and uninterrupted data usage at the most competitive price point across all segments,” said Mr. Sanjay Behl, Group head for Brand and Marketing at Reliance Communication (RCom).

RCom also stated that the new plan of RCom with cut in 3G rates will be made available to the users spread in 333 towns across 13 telecom circles where the 3G services are active.

It is to be noted that the telecom companies such as Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular had earlier reduced their 3G rates to Rs. 3 for each MB data usage. However, the current reduction in 3G rates by RCom is really competitive enough to encourage other telecom companies to think of cutting rates on 3G rates.

The latest reduction in 3G tariff by the company has come mainly due to low penetration of 3G services across India. As per the global telecom industry body GSM Association, India had merely 10 million 3G users in March, 2012 in comparison to overall 900 million mobile subscriber bases in the nation.

Vergence Labs has made a pair of prototype glasses that are capable of recording the audio as well as the video of the first-person, albeit they look like ordinary glasses.

May 25, 2012: The technological advancements have made it really easy to record videos and now with the pair of techno glasses by Vergence Labs, the video recording has become astoundingly easier than the recordings made via cameras or mobile phones and other gadgets. Although these prototype glasses look ordinary, they have the ability to record the first-person audio and video.

On top of this, these techno glasses enable the users to share the videos on various social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. Moreover, the glasses are likely to include a ‘magic’ button for turning them into sunglasses.

The glass by Vergence Labs is a stylish product. As per the makers of the glass, the techno glass is styled after Clark Kent. Also, the glass is considered as a stealthy product by the makers mainly because this video recording device looks like a very ordinary glass. In addition to this, the frame styles of the glasses will be modelled after Clark Kent, Buddy Holly and James Dean. On the other hand, the much-hyped Google’s Project Glass goggles sculpted by CEO Larry Page are bulky and dull in looks.

According to the sources, the prototype glasses were developed using a 3D printer. Currently, the maker of the techno glasses is searching for funding for their product that is composed of a lens and recording equipment into the arms. “Recording video or taking pictures is clunky. You have to pull out your smart phone or your video camera, and hold it up,” said Vergence. Vergence also added, “What if you could just touch a button on your eyewear and start recording from the actual perspective of your eyes instead? Sure, there are products you can strap on your head, but what if the ability was inside a regular pair of stylish & trendy looking hipster glasses? That would be cool!”

Company expects the glasses to be a hit over Facebook and Youtube as the users will be able to ‘capture the moment’ and share it as videos exhibiting their opinion or point of view on these social media platforms. “We are working with-in an accelerated startup environment to reinvent the human-computer experience as stylish computing enabled eyewear,” the company said.
Apart from this, other tech firms such as Epson are also entering into this field with their glasses that boast Android operating system (OS). Thus, the tech firms are really set to revolutionise the way we see things around us.

May 23, 2012: Google has bought hardware business, courtesy of Motorola and stockpile of legal patents of Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. After acquiring the legal patents, historic technology brand and a multibillion dollar handset as well as TV set-top box business, it is clear that Google will be able to legally defend as well as offend for patents of Motorola. Moreover, the Google will also get the tax benefit in the coming term as Motorola has been incurring losses in the past few years. However, Google has not made it clear as to how will it proceed with the actual Motorola business.

Well, some of the available options that Google can go with for business of Motorola as per industry analysts are:

Keep Motorola as an independent entity:

Google can operate Motorola as an independent business for now. Thus, by running the company at a slight distance can be one of the best ways that Google can opt for. The Google CEO Larry Page can appoint Dennis Woodside (a long-time Googler) as Motorola’s new Chief Executive along with some other executives as well as marketing lead Gary Briggs to manage the business of Motorola. This new team will be able to keep the brand alive.

However, the analysts consider that the plan to run Motorola as an independent company isn’t a smart option to select. The analysts say that the company has been incurring losses for the last few years and it has posted a wider quarter loss last year as an independent company. Despite a successful flagship phone at Verizon Wireless along with Droid Razr, the company has witnessed decline in value. Therefore, running the company as an independent entity may not do much and the profit margin may not satisfy the Google’s expectations.

Use Motorola as an Android Experience Device:

Google could make use of Motorola handsets to ensure that the company supple adequate stock of Android experience devices in the mobile technology market. “(Motorola) gives them the vehicle to deliver the Android experience that they see fit,” said Gartenberg, an analyst at Gartner. He also added that Motorola could be used as a showcase for stock Android software by Google without any attempts to dominate the mobility market.

But, this again would be a tough task for Google to do as the other handset vendors will mostly inspect how these products make way to the market. And as Android is made available to all, Google is looking forward to grant early access of its platform to multiple vendor partners’ latest releases for creating multiple Nexus device at a time. Thus, using Motorola as a showcase for Android software wouldn’t be feasible for Google.

Google can opt for vertical integration method:

The company can go Apple’s way by creating a complete end-to-end product with the Google hardware and software. It can build its own flagship Android phone working directly with Motorola. In this way, Google will have complete control over line of Android phones produced by it. In short, it will be having in-house expertise of designing and manufacturing phones with Motorola.

It is to be noted that this would put Google directly in competition with the other phone that boasts software advantages over its line of products. “If they become a competitor, the other guys will walk,” said Matthew Thornton (an analyst at Avian Securities). He added saying, “They will flee very quickly.” Thus, this could really be one of the appropriate options for Google to run business of Motorola.

A similar method can also be opted for set-top business of Motorola, which has been consistently performing well. The Motorola set-top box interface makes it convenient and better to search TV programs without actually searching for a long time. So, we may see integration of Google TV with the Motorola set-top box in future. However, it will have its own issue like – whether the unit should have Google capabilities or Motorola’s set-top box interface only. Thus, this can really be a bit difficult to select as the interface by Motorola is really appreciable.

Google can sell Motorola business:

Google can thing of selling the business of Motorola and keeping the patents. The possibility of something like this happening is 50%. Many of the analysts believe that the Google may sell the business to some other company and still hold the patents. Moreover, it is considered as one of the best options available with Google for business of Motorola. The company can do the same with the set-top box as well.

A group of analysts with the strong belief of Google selling the business think that the Google wouldn’t like to run hardware business. “Ultimately, I don’t think Google wants to go the hardware route,” Thornton said.

What exactly has to be done with Motorola business is solely the decision of Google, but Google’s unclear approach over the business has compelled many business analysts to estimate the nearest options that could be better for Google to opt. Also, the concerns raised by the analysts are mainly because a single move by Google could certainly leave an impact over the technology industry as a whole.

May 23, 2012: Apple has earned the top position of being the world’s most valuable brand for the two consecutive years now, as per the study released on Tuesday. According to the annual BrandZ study by Millward Brown, Apple has grabbed the top position by improving its brand value to $182.9 billion, which is 19% more than the previous year.

The Cupertino, California based company was ahead of IBM by about $30 billion dollars. Overall, the technology companies have scored well in the BrandZ study. Following IBM, Google landed at the third place. The other tech company falling in top five brands’ bracket is Microsoft, which is at fifth position. Surprisingly, McDonald is the only non-technology brand in the top five brands right above Microsoft.

The study judges the brands and ranks them on basis of their value, financial data analysis, market intelligence and consumer measures of brand equity. A press release for the study acknowledges that the Apple continues to dominate the market, albeit it is not able to escape the challenges.

“Apple continues to innovate and maintain its ‘luxury’ brand status, but faces future competition from Samsung,” a press release for the study states. The press release further goes on to state that – “Samsung is successfully outpacing Apple in a significant number of markets by positioning as a cool, well-priced alternative to the ubiquitous iPhone.”

The other brands in the top 10 list were Coca-Cola, Marlboro and AT&T followed by Verizon and China Mobile.

One brand that has performed extremely well in the study was Facebook. This social network soared 74% up in brand value and became the fastest brand-value riser in the study. Facebook went on to take a steep leap to land at 19th spot from 35th spot.

May 22, 2012: Today is the birthday of video-sharing site Youtube. On its seventh birthday, Youtube said in a blog post that it has hit fresh milestones with respect to its offerings and also the time spent on the video-sharing website.

“Today 72 hours of video are uploaded to the site every minute,” said Youtube, a Google-owned website. It further stated, “Like many 7-year olds around the world, we’re growing up so fast! In other words, every single minute you now upload three whole days worth of video instead of two. That’s 61 Royal Wedding Ceremonies, 841 Bad Romances, and 1,194 Nyan Cats.”

The blog post also reportedly read that all 800 million of users around the world have proved that the Youtube is on the right track by increasing 50% subscriptions and watching more than three billion hours a month.

Google acquired Youtube for $1.65 billion in the year 2006. The California-based Internet search and advertising company has not announced any information related to the profit of the video-sharing site despite its massive popularity.

Eventually, Youtube has been adding professional content like full-length television shows and movies in order to attract advertisers along with the amateur video offerings.

It is to be noted that Youtube was founded by three former PayPal employees namely Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim on February 14, 2005. However, the site was officially launched in November, 2005 after offering the public a beta test of the site in May, 2005. “Me at the zoo” was the first Youtube video showing co-founder Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo.
